There are a couple of ways you can go about setting up an ad in facebook. Whilst it’s possible to find a recent post and simply hit the ‘boost’ button we are going to talk about the ins and outs of getting your services and products exactly where you want them. First you’ll need to get started with Business Manager. Here’s how:
Setting up a facebook business account
Your facebook business manager is going to be our central hub for managing all of your marketing and promotions on facebook. The level of control it gives you about your normal page is staggering. You will be able to manage all of your posts, page updates, campaigns and see detailed reports on all of your activities.
For this you can either use your personal facebook page, or your businesses facebook page. Start by heading to https://business.facebook.com/ and creating an account for yourself. Enter your business name, your own name and email you want to use to manage your account. You will be taken to your new business accounts dashboard.
Next you need to link your account to a facebook page. You can either choose an existing one or create a new one. Click the add page button and add a page of your own. Start typing your page name and select it from the drop down list.
Setting up your ad account
Next we need an ad account. From your business manager dashboard select the add account option, and click to create an account. Name your ad account, select the relevant options and click ‘create account’. Once you start spending money you can have up to 5 ad accounts in your business manager.
Giving your team access
Facebook’s business manager allows you to add multiple people to help manage your account. You can even assign permissions and roles.
Head to your business setting and select users. Next click on people. This panel show you everyone assigned to your business account, their roles and permission levels. Click add and enter the email address of the person you want to invite to manage your page. You can choose whether to give them admin rights or employee rights. This will define the level of control they have when making changes on your business manager.
Next assign the pages you want them to manage to their profile. The levels of access are as follows:
- Page admin: Can manage all aspects of the page, including assigning new Page roles to others.
- Page moderator: Can create ads and branded content; send, respond to, and delete messages and comments; and view insights.
- Page analyst: Can manage branded content settings and view insights.
- Page editor: Can do everything a Page moderator can do plus publish as the page.
- Page advertiser: Can do everything a Page analyst can do plus create ads.
Once you have assigned pages to each individual you will be able to sign ad accounts. The permission levels are as follows and your invites will be sent via email:
- Ad account admin: Can manage all aspects of campaigns, including editing billing details and assigning roles to others.
- Ad account analyst: Only has access to view ad performance.
- Ad account advertiser: Can see, edit, and create new ads.
Want to post ads on Instagram too?
Hooking up your business account to your instagram allows you to post your ads to both platforms. Select the gear icon at the top of your business manager and select people and assets. Select instagram account and then add. Enter your instagram login details click next and then select your add account. Click done and hey-presto! You’re ready to post ads on both platforms. Now it’s time to create your Facebook Ad
Step 1 – Define your outcome
It’s important that before you start creating your ad on Facebook, that you decide what outcome you’d like from the ad. Facebook gives you plenty of options here to choose from. Whether you’re looking to get more traffic to your website, collect email addresses from your audience or to build your brand awareness. Step 2 – Choose your audience
You can be very specific here on who you’d like to see your ad in their timelines. You can choose gender, age, job titles & even interests. So, think carefully about who it is that you’re targeting to get the best from your ad spend. For example, if you’re a business selling a new music production software then you’re going to want to target all genders over a chosen age & who have an interest in music production. Step 3 – Decide on a budget & how long you’d like the ad to run for
This one’s pretty obvious. With Facebook ads, you can choose the amount you’d like to spend & the length of time you’d like your ad to run for. Facebook will then spread the cost over the amount of day’s you’ve selected. This will also affect the amount of people your ad reaches. So, if you only have a small marketing budget this is ideal for you!
Step 4 – Curate your media
Professional photos, rich video content or a sparkly graphic? Add the media that is going to catch people’s eyes the most because this is what people will see first. This is your chance to be completely unique & show others what your business is about! No media? No problem! Step 5 – Pick a suitable message
Copy is key here. It’s up to you if you’d like to write a whole paragraph here, a banging one liner or just the link to your website! A top tip though – check over what you’ve written 4 or 5 times. There’s nothing worse than finding out that thousands of people have seen you’ve made a spelling mistake or put in the wrong phone number. Don’t worry though, it happens to even the best of us!
Step 6 – Press go!
It’s time to let go of the keyboard & let Facebook do its job.
