Knowing how to brand your business can be hard. Beyond just a memorable logo, good branding increases the value of your company. Your branding is your businesses identity and is how you define your business to yourself, your team and your external audiences. It also provides employees with direction, motivation and makes acquiring new customers a lot easier! Be innovative, be daring or just stand for something you believe it.
Be honest
So you’ve got a business idea? Before you even begin to think about your logo or how you’re going to advertise yourself, you need to be honest with how you’re going to present yourself to the world. It’s all well and good creating a business that sells vintage clocks (for example) BUT you need to have an avid interest in your product or service! Your house should be full of clocks, your friends & family should sick of hearing about clocks.
Imagine if you presented yourself as the ‘clock connoisseur’ when you actually weren’t. It’d be hard to keep up the act, right? Food for thought.
Get a great logo.
One of the most fun but also most frustrating parts of defining your business branding – The beloved logo! It’s your chance to get creative and define your business identity to yourself, your team and your external audiences.
Create a brand philosophy
This follows on from step 1. Your company’s mission? What are the benefits of your products or services? Which qualities does your business have? Write it down and remember it!
Make your tagline
Similar to your brand philosophy, your tagline should be a memorable (sometimes cheesy) statement that accentuates your logo and tells your audience who you are. A tagline is handy for using on advertising and marketing material. Make it a good one!
Be consistent
You’ve got a goal, a logo and a catchy tagline. Now you need to stick to it. Use the same font, the same language, the same colour palette and stay true to your brand! Your audience won’t be able to keep up if you keep changing the guidelines.
